about

Every album needs an ending, and this one goes off with a bang. Illumination is a bright and funky
party of a track to end the huge sonic journey through Goldfynch’s debut works. Inspired by Diwale
(the Festival of Lights lit to symbolise the spreading of knowledge and interconnection of all
humanity) the song was written with the aim to motivate change – favouring sustainable living
practices and a sense of collective community over separatism and greed. Illumination bounces with
energy thanks to Jonathan Zwartz’s groovy electric bass, James Hauptmann on drums, Gavin’s
inspired guitar licks, and vibing trumpet and saxophone care of Thomas and Michael Avgenicos.

lyrics

Illumination

Baby there’s a story here for you and me
Listen well, who can tell, rings a bell, of just what could be
Once upon a time there was a boy and girl
What a pair, unaware, of their share or affect on the world.

Switch your light on, baby x 3

Riff

Walking through the jungle of suburban dreams
Have a lot, maybe not, all we got isn’t what it seems
Born out of the stardust, reaching into the night
Could it be, we’re not free, don’t we see, what could be with the light

Switch your light on baby
Switch the light on and see

Short pause

> All the world depends upon you
Don’t see what you’re capable to do
In your heart you know it’s true
...
Switch the light on and see
...

(Instrumental solo ... riff
...

Travelling together, on a spinning ball in space
Who believes, fantasies, of a lesser or higher race
Brotherhood and sisterhood is all I see
He has more, for the poor, far offshore that means much less for she.

Take the ride up with me
Switch the light on baby
Be the change you wanna see
Switch your light on baby
Sing and jive on baby
Switch your light on baby!

Alt ideas:
Hey
Things don’t always go our way
We don’t get depressed no no
We stand up and fight another day
Dance another day
Sing another day
